Mr. George Giannopoulos, who served as President of the OWHC from September, 2003 was succeeded by Mr. Hatzis Hatziefthimiou as the Mayor of Rhodes (Greece) on 1 January 2007. As an outgoing Mayor, Mr. Giannopoulos could no longer hold the office of President. The Organization expresses its gratitude to Mr. Giannopoulos for his dedication and genuine interest in the work of the OWHC and for his contribution to its development.

The last meeting of the Board of Directors of the OWHC was held in Cuenca, Ecuador, on January 18 and 19.

Marcelo Cabrera Palacios Mayor of Cuenca and President of the OWHC

The mayor of Cuenca, Mr. Hugo Marcelo Cabrera Palacios, was elected President of the OWHC, and the new mayors of Cusco (Ms. Marina Sequeiros Montesinos), of Guanajuato (Mr. Eduardo Romero Hicks) and of Rhodes (Mr. Hatzis Hatziefthimiou) were invited to replace their predecessors. Numerous issues were discussed, including the adoption of a strategic development plan, the creation of the Jean-Paul L’Allier Heritage Prize, a conference to be held in Luxembourg entitled “Journalism and World Heritage”, etc. All these issues will be presented at the General Assembly, which will meet in Kazan, at the next OWHC World Congress, which will be held from June 19 to 23, 2007.
