It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Mr. Herb Stovel which occurred yesterday, March 14, 2012.

In addition to contributing to the creation of the Organization of  World Heritage Cities, Mr. Stovel had always remained close to the OWHC being,  among other things,  involved in the writing of the Management Guide of the Organization of World Heritage Cities  and many other activities of our Organization, including the thematic development  of the Mayors and decision-makers’ Forum of the World Congress in Rhodes in 2003. Mr. Stovel had a brilliant career in the field of heritage not only within the OWHC but also ICCROM and ICOMOS as well as in university education in Canada. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and share the grief of all in the world of heritage who are in mourning. A beacon has gone out.
