Stralsund: Student wins the OWHC Photo Competition

Stralsund, Germany

The town hall of Stralsund during this years „Lange Nacht des offenen Denkmals“(Long Night of open Monuments): This is the photo which made the student Moritz Werthschulte the winner of the  Photo Competition held by the Organisation of World Heritage Cities. In 2014, the topic was „Modern Life in an Old City”. World Heritage Manager Steffi Behrendt awarded him the prize money of EUR 350 today (December 12th).
The cue to the competition came by the OWHC Regional Secretariat of Northwest Europe, residing in Regensburg, in September. Besides Stralsund, eight other world heritage cities in Germany, Austria, Poland and Great Britain took part in the competition.

The photos, which were handed in, had to meet the following criteria: Firstly, they were supposed to show a characteristic motif of the city, secondly they had to reflect the topic perfectly.

The seventeen year old is happy about the decision: “I feel really honoured to have been able to convince the judges with my photo.”
Since two years Moritz, who is a senior at the “Schulzentrum am Sund”, is an enthusiastic hobby photographer. His photo is now enrolled in the second round of the competition and this time he will have to cope with the winners from the other cities. The overall winner will be awarded a prize money of EUR 700 and his photo will also be published worldwide under his name by the OWHC. It will also be used for several marketing activities such as fairs, conferences, congresses and, of course, online.
