United Nations declared 2017 as International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development. The Mexican Ministry of Tourism promotes the “National Commitment for Sustainable Tourism for Development”.

On July 3, the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities signed such commitment, which consists on managing and promoting actions to generate a sustainable development of the touristic activities, in order to contribute to the welfare of the Community of such touristic destinations, through the 3 pillars: Social, economic and environmental.
