Visit of the Secretary General of the OWHC, Mr. Denis Ricard in Tunis

The visit to Tunis by OWHC Secretary General Mr. Denis Ricard had the objective, among other things, to conduct a meeting with Tunis Mayor Ms. Souad ben Abderahimm. During this meeting, the Mayor expressed her willingness to relaunch the Regional Secretariat for Africa and the Middle East. She highlighted the distinguished role of the City of Tunis as a founding member of the organization and its influence throughout the region.

In addition, she confirmed the choice of Ms. Amel Meddeb – urban architect, general director of the ASM (Safeguarding Association of the Medina of Tunis) and head of the district of the Medina of Tunis – as regional coordinator from Africa and the Middle East. In this regard, it was agreed to activate bilateral cooperation through the implementation of concrete strategies benefiting the city of Tunis.

The discussion was also held on the possibility of organizing a regional meeting in Tunis by the end of the year, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the classification of the Medina of Tunis on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

At the same time, the Secretary General invited the Mayor to participate in the organization’s next international congress to be held in Krakow, Poland next June.
