Philadelphia celebrates 40 years of Independence Hall as a World Heritage site

On 23 May 2019 the Global Philadelphia Association led the city in celebrating Philadelphia’s World Heritage Day. With the help of the National Parks Service, an event was hosted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Independence Hall being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was joined by other city representatives in speaking about the tradition of World Heritage Day and officially recognizing World Heritage Day 2019.
“Visitors flock to World Heritage Sites across the globe each year, drawn by the outstanding universal value to humanity that these sites represent,” said Zabeth Teelucksingh, executive director of Global Philadelphia Association.
