Bamberg issues World Heritage Management Plan

Bamberg, Germany

Over 100 institutions and individuals have contributed to the development of the planning instrument.

„An intact World Heritage site that is a source of education and identity as well as a motor for sustainable, high-quality urban development“, reads the mission statement that led the development of Bamberg’s World Heritage Management Plan. The Management Plan contains the central guidelines, instruments and organisational structures that are relevant for the preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Town of Bamberg” and its Outstanding Universal Value.

Based on a broad participatory process short-, medium- and long-term measures and recommendations were developed in the five thematic areas of „architectural heritage and urban development“, „education and research“, „urban gardening“, „heritage tourism“ and „economic development“. „The plan highlights the quality standards associated with the World Heritage status“, says Bamberg’s Lord Mayor Andreas Starke.

A separate chapter is dedicated to ongoing projects towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A visual space analysis complements the document.
