Regional Conference Northwest Europe and North America in Brugge was a great success

With more than 50 participants form 20 different World Heritage Cities, the 2023 Regional Conference of the Northwest Europe/North America secretariat took place in Brugge/Belgium 11-13 October. Inspiring keynotes from Graham Bell/Europa Nostra and Michiel Van Balen/Miss Miyagi gave inspiring input for our topic: “Climate Change and Heritage – mitigating the challenges to keep our cities livable spaces”. Our host city Brugge organized three workshops with a special focus on relevant local heritage topics: the Béguinage with its intangible heritage, the conversion of the English Convent, and the function of historic waterways/canals with a focus on climate and future use. Exchange and inspiring discussions with many practice examples were the content of our Friday morning interactive workshop. Moderated by Nils Scheffler, results were gathered in our Conference Documentation

Special thanks to the organizing team in Brugge: you picked wonderful locations for the venues and the hospitality of your city was just amazing! THANK YOU Brugge!

With a post-convention tour to Brussels on Saturday 14 October, participants also had a chance to get to know in detail the World Heritage sites of Brussels – also a big thank you to everyone from the team in Brussels for offering this day!
