Quebec City (Canada) calls on your expertise via the OWHC Hotline!

The City of Quebec wishes to gather information concerning:

Creative financing solutions for the redevelopment and maintenance of streets and public spaces in historical centers.

Quebec City would like to collect answers to the following questions, in order to gather and seek inspiration from the solutions envisaged by OWHC member cities when facing the multiplication of costs for development work in the context of historic centers:

  • If your municipalities invest in the redevelopment and maintenance of streets in historic centers, can you provide some information on the source and proportions of funding (municipality VS higher governments, and/or others)?
  • Do you have ways of financing projects related to public spaces (streets, parks, public squares, etc.) in historic centers other than municipal and higher government funding?
  • What are your most creative solutions for financing projects related to public spaces in historic centers?
  • Can tourism taxes be used to fund projects related to public spaces in historic centers? If so, what mechanism is used?
  • Do you have an investment plan to ensure stable funding from year to year for public spaces in historic centers?

Is your city concerned by any of the aspects mentioned? Quebec City would like to hear from you.

To communicate your answers, please contact the Heritage Project Officer Ms. Émilie Gourbin via email: [email protected]. Please return your contributions by November 8, 2024.
