On behalf of all the citizens of Kazan, I salute you and I thank you for having chosen our city as host of the 9th World Congress of the OWHC.

The people of Kazan will be pleased to welcome you in 2007. We have already started to prepare this world event. We hope that, thanks to your support, this congress will be one of the most successful one in the history of the OWHC.

Kazan was recognized as a world heritage city in 2000 further to the inscription of the Kremlin on UNESCO’s world heritage list. Since 2003, Kazan has been the seat of the Regional Secretariat of the OWHC for Euro-Asia. This secretariat was created with the support of the world heritage cities of that region. The Euro-Asia secretariat is dynamic and many activities have already been organized for this region. The 9th World Congress of the OWHC is a major event, and will be the first one to be held on the Euro-Asian territory.

In 2005, Kazan celebrated its 1000th anniversary; you will therefore discover one of the oldest cities in Russia. The organizers of the Congress are preparing a theme that will be very useful for the management of the invaluable heritage of our cities. The cultural program will include participation in the Tatar Sabantuy Festival and a cruise on the Volga River, from which one can admire the architecture of Kazan. You will discover the cultural diversity of Kazan, its wealth and its intangible heritage, and you will taste various foods of Russian, Tatar and ethnic origins.`
