OAXACA 2013: Announcement of the winners of the competition “My City, our World Heritage”

Oaxaca, Mexico, November 21, 2013. The Organization of World Heritage Cities disclosed today the names of the winners of the second edition of the International Video Production Competition “My City, our World Heritage”. The awards for the 14-17 years category and the 18-21 years category were presented in the presence of the president of the Organization, Mr. Harry Brinkman, who stated that this competition was an excellent means to reach the young people and to make them aware of their heritage.

The members of the jury were Ms. Ines Yousfi of UNESCO’S World Heritage Centre, Mr. Serge Martin, President of Grands Explorateurs, Special Advisor for the Sustainable Energy for All initiative of the United Nations Foundation, and patron of the OWHC, as well as Mr. Denis Ricard, Secretary General of the OWHC.

The jury wishes to point out the high quality of the 18 videos presented by 14 members in good standing of the OWHC: Angra do Heroismo (Portugal), Aranjuez (Spain), Arequipa (Peru), Banska Stiavnica (Slovak Republic), Bordeaux (France), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Évora (Portugal), Kotor (Montenegro), Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Puebla (Mexico), Québec (Canada), Quito (Ecuador), Valparaiso (Chile) and Warsaw (Poland).

The evaluation criteria of the jury were the following: 1) the quality of the production; 2) the processing of the content 3) originality and creativity.

The winner of the 14-17 years category

The international winner in the 14-17 years category is Carlos Alberto Ramos Torres, of the city of Puebla, for the video Puebla mi hogar. México-Puebla 2013.

This video is an interesting guided tour of Puebla. The producer makes the pictures speak for themselves by showing key places of the city as well as the lifestyles of the citizens.

The mayor of Puebla, Sr. Eduardo Rivera Pérez, was proud to receive a certificate of honour during the 12th World Congress of the OWHC. In the next few months, Sr. Pérez will greet a representative of the Organization, who will give an honorary certificate and a prize of $500 US to the international prizewinner.

The winner of the 18-21 years category

The international winner in the 18-21 years category is Nicolas Tabilo Sanhueza, of the city of Valparaiso, for the video, Valparaíso, Chile “My city, our world heritage.” 2013.

This video won over the members of the jury who especially appreciated the originality of the producer, who cannot easily describe all what Valparaiso is within the same scenario.

The mayor of Valparaiso, Sr. Jorge Castro Muñoz, was proud to receive a certificate of honour during the 12th World Congress of the OWHC. In the next few months, Sr. Castro Muñoz will greet a representative of the Organization who will give a certificate of honour and a prize of $1,000 US to the international prizewinner.
