Historic and Architectural Complex “Bulgar” (Tatarstan, Russia) entered the UNESCO World Heritage List

June 23, there was decided to include the Bulgarian historical and archaeological complex in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It became the 1002nd object included in the list at the regular meeting of the 38th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Doha, Qatar.

The committee, chaired by Sheikha bint Hamad Al Mayassa bin Khalifa Al Thani, was attended by Advisor Permanent Representation of the Russian Federation to UNESCO in Paris and Konstantin Volkov delegation from Tatarstan headed by the Assistant President of the Republic on Social Affairs, the executive director of the Republican Fund for the revival of monuments of history and culture Tatiana Larionov.

Bulgarian State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve was established in 1969 and is the oldest in the Republic of Tatarstan. It is located on the banks of the Volga River, just south of its confluence with the Kama River, south of Kazan. Here are the ruins of the medieval city of Bulgar (Bulgaria), hearth early civilization of the Volga Bulgars. The city existed between VII and XV centuries and was the first capital of the Golden Horde in the XIII century.

Bulgar was the historic center of cultural exchanges and the changes taking place in Eurasia for several centuries, he played a decisive role in the formation of civilizations, lifestyle and cultural traditions. The complex is a wonderful testimony of historical change and cultural diversity, is a symbolic reminder of the spread of Islam, from the Volga Bulgars, who embraced Islam in 922 new times to modern Muslim Tatars. The place is sacred and revered place of pilgrimage.

Deputy director of the Bulgarian Museum Andrew Faskhutdinov expressed the hope that the object status by UNESCO attract tourists. According to the development program, presented at the session in Qatar, with the 2013 settlement was visited 200,000 guests.
