International Cultural Heritage Forum “Evolution and Preservation of Historic Urban Landscape”

The International Cultural Heritage Forum was held in December 4–6, 2014 in Vilnius. The Forum was dedicated to the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Vilnius Historic Centre inscription on UNESCO world heritage list. 28 guests from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Canada, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Scotland and Ukraine took part at the Forum.

Welcome speeches were made by Vilnius Mayor A. Zuokas, Chief of Europe and North America Unit of UNESCO World Heritage Centre P. Totcharova, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to UNESCO A.Gelūnas and Secretary General of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) Denis Ricard.

Site Unit Director of ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) J. King and architect-planner, consultant in cultural heritage and sustainable urban development Dennis Rodwell gave keynote presentations. Conservation management specialists from Baku, Riga, Saint Petersburg, Tbilisi, Torun, Vilnius and Warsaw presented their experience.
The topic of the Forum: “Evolution and Preservation of Historic Urban Landscape”. Representatives from political, managerial and expert levels: mayors, political and administrative authorities, sites managers and specialists of the municipalities analysed UNESCO Recommendations on Historic Urban Landscapes in the context of contemporary economic and social progress and its impact on the cityscape.
