OWHC-AP Strategic Meeting for World Heritage Cities
Since its creation in December 2013, the OWHC-AP organized and led many activities, like its 1st Regional Meeting, the UNESCO/OWHC-AP World Heritage Media/Communication Youth Workshop, the UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture, the Youth Communication Committee, the OWHC-AP High School Network, in addition to their Video Competition. All of the activities were addressed during the 1st Strategic Meeting for the Asia-Pacific Region, which took place in Ayutthaya (Thailand) from 27th to 28th of August.
In addition to the updates of the ongoing OWHC-AP projects and programs, the OWHC-AP suggested several new joints activities including “Photo Essay Book Publication”, “OWHC-AP Triangle Network”, and “OWHC-AP News Letter”. The participants were delighted that the regional secretariat is willing to support and provide more information and joint projects.
The participants had the exceptional opportunity to explore and discover the old capital of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ayutthaya. Many ancient ruins and art works can be seen in a city that was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong when the Thais were forced southwards by northern neighbors. During the period of Ayutthaya being the Thai capital, 33 Kings of different dynasties ruled the kingdom.
The OWHC-AP wishes to thank the Governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Mr. Vira Rojpojchanarat, the minister of culture, Thailand for his generous support.
