In memoriam of Ljubo Bešlić

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

It is with the deepest sorrow that we learned of the passing of Ljubo Bešlić, former Mayor of the city of Mostar. Bešlić passed away after a long illness on 3 September 2021 in Zagreb, Croatia.

Ljubo Bešlić was elected Mayor of the City of Mostar in 2004 and remained in office until early 2021. He was the first mayor of a united Mostar since the Bosniak-Croat war. During his first mandate, in 2006, the City of Mostar became a member of the OWHC, following the inscription of the property “Old Bridge Area of the Old City of Mostar” to the World Heritage List in 2005. Furthermore, during his second mandate, Ljubo Bešlić hosted the OWHC Regional Conference of the Southern Europe and Mediterranean Secretariat in Mostar, from 24 to 26 of May 2012.

We express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ljubo Bešlić. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this difficult time.
