About
The Municipality of Kraków is organising the 3rd International Conference Historical Cities 3.0. This year’s event, on this occasion entitled “Tourism-Friendly Cities – in Search of a New Model of Attractiveness” will take place in an online format on 28 March 2022. The conference will focus on the changing approach of historical cities – particularly those affected by overtourism – to tourism recovery strategies in the context of current trends and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Three discussion panels are planned, in which invited speakers will address the following topics: Challenges for Tourism Entrepreneurship After Covid-19, Tourism and Cultural Heritage and A Local Community for Tourism Policy. Can tourism be sustainable in a historical city and what exactly is meant by this term? What are the limits when it comes to the tourism-based commercialisation of a city’s heritage? How to build local tourism partnership structures? These and other questions will be answered by guest speakers, who will include representatives of such historical cities as Bologna, Braga, Dubrovnik, Genoa, Québec and Venice.
The conference’s patrons will include, among others, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). The strategic partner of the event is the Tourism-Friendly Cities project, which is a part of the URBACT III programme.
