Four Central European World Heritage cities – Banská Štiavnica (SK), Budapest (HU), Kraków (PL) and Kutná Hora (CZ) – resumed the international school project that was first launched in 2013.

The project included a 5-day seminar in Banská Štiavnica, during which 4 students (10 – 11 years old) from each city took part in education about World Heritage. The aim of the project is to draw children’s attention to the World Heritage in their WH cities/sites. The attention is drawn to both tangible and intangible heritage and its protection, preservation and raising awareness about the values of WH for society (local, national and international), developing respect for different cultures and building links among participants to understand these values.

The program of the seminar was deliberately prepared in cooperation with teachers and included active WH games, presentations and local tours within the Banská Štiavnica WH site (including the unique water management system). Children and participants enjoyed their time in Banská Štiavnica very much.

OWHC CEER Regional Coordinator Michał Krasucki attended the first day of the seminar. He believes that it is a very important step in building awareness and respect for different cultures and heritage values to involve children in a World Heritage education project in cooperation with partner cities.
