La Organización de las Ciudades del Patrimonio Mundial (OCPM) desea felicitar al Alcalde de Gyeongju (Corea del Sur), Sr. Choi Yang-sik, ya que su ciudad ha sido elegida para albergar la Secretaría de Asia-Pacífico, constituyendo así la 8^a Secretaría Regional de la OCPM.

Asimismo, la Organización da su enhorabuena a la Sra. Min Kyeong Lee, quien ha sido nombrada nueva Coordinadora Regional.

El Consejo de Administración de la OCPM se complació en aceptar y oficializar la creación de la nueva Secretaría de Gyeongju durante su reunión, celebrada los días 14, 15 y 16 de mayo de 2013. Dicha creación es la aplicación de las recomendaciones formuladas durante el encuentro UNESCO Asia Pacific Mayor’s Forum for World Heritage Cities del 29 de agosto de 2012, las cuales se leen así:

4. Create and maintain networks and ties amongst each other to better meet the challenges of conserving and managing a city having World Heritage status in Asia and the Pacific, in particular within the network of the Organization of World Heritage Cities;
5. Note with appreciation the interest of the city of Gyeongju to host the first regional Secretariat for Asia and the Pacific of the Organization of World Heritage Cities, and the proposal to convene the first regional conference in 2014.
